SUSTAINABILITY

As GISE, we’re committed to reducing emissions and waste across all our events.

With our congress organizer, OIC Group – ISO 20121 certified and carbon neutral company – we are moving on to make significant strides toward a more SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.

OUR COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT

Thanks to the collaboration between the GISE Foundation, OIC Group, and Up2You, the 45th GISE National Congress is officially a CARBON NEUTRAL event!

What path have we taken, and what tangible actions are we implementing?

1

CO2 EMISSION CALCULATION
We are conducting a thorough carbon footprint analysis of the event, allowing us to accurately calculate the Co2 emissions generated by the Congress.

2

CO2 REDUCTION STRATEGY
We have implemented a strategy focused on sustainable choices, emission reductions, and waste minimization:

  • Certified Partners: We selected a Professional Congress Organizer (OIC Group) and a venue (MiCo) that are both ISO 20121 certified for sustainable event management.
  • Energy Efficiency: MiCo Convention Center uses 100% renewable energy, eliminating emissions associated with energy consumption.
  • Use of Eco-Sustainable Materials: We took a holistic approach to minimize paper use, favouring digital solutions for event signage and internal communications. A comprehensive digital signage ecosystem was developed, covering room signage and informational displays. We chose not to print the event program, making it available directly via our dedicated app. Additionally, all our badges, including those for this event, were made from sustainable materials: eco-friendly FSC-certified 120g paper, suitable for laser printers. The lamination is free of heavy metals and chlorine and is solvent-free. When incinerated with thermal energy recovery, it is safe for the environment, and both the paper and lamination can be recycled or disposed of without negative impact.
  • Sustainable Mobility: We encouraged the use of low-impact transportation, reducing emissions from travel.
  • Waste Reduction: Recycled and recyclable materials have been adopted to minimize waste production.

CO2 OFFSETTING
We will offset the event’s irreducible emissions by supporting, with Up2You, certified international projects aimed at capturing or avoiding CO₂ emissions.

These projects include:

Boyabat Hydroelectric Power Plant (Turkey)

A 513 MW hydroelectric project built on the Kızılırmak River, generating clean energy and reducing reliance on fossil fuels to meet local energy needs.

FSCECP Hydroelectric Power Plant Project (Brazil)

A hydroelectric plant that produces renewable energy, helping to reduce CO₂ emissions and supporting sustainable development in Brazilian regions, as an alternative to fossil fuel-based plants.

Heqing Solar Cooker Project
(China)

An initiative that provides solar cookers to local communities in a region with high solar exposure. This project helps replace coal with solar energy, thus reducing CO₂ emissions.

Pakarab Fertilizer Co-Generation Power Project (Pakistan)

This project co-generates electricity and heat by using waste heat from gas turbines to produce steam, reducing the need for energy generated solely from fossil fuels.

AND YOU, AS PARTICIPANT, WHAT CAN YOU DO?

APPROPRIATE CONTAINERS

Dispose of waste correctly by using appropriate bins. Reuse the materials available to you in accordance with the principles of the circular economy.

DON’T WASTE FOOD

Food is a precious commodity; let’s try to not waste it. In addition, surplus food generated by the conference will be donated to non-profit organizations that support the disadvantaged.

SMART MOBILITY

Organize your commute in a sustainable way to the conference
venue. Use carpooling with others, or using bicycles, scooters, or hybrid or electric cars.

REDUCE THE USE OF PAPER

We can save forests by avoiding paper consumption and otping for digitalmethods. We prefer digital modes, QR codes and online agendas. If absolutely essential, we use FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper.

HELP SPREAD THE SUSTAINABILITY

It is important for everyone to help spread the concepts of sustainable development. Share best practices and tips, and raise awareness . This is of paramount importance if true environmental awareness is to be raised.

LEAVE YOUR FEEDBACK

Any suggestions that would improve the sustainable organization of the congress are always welcome. If you notice anything that you think does not comply with the principles of sustainability, please let us know in person or through the dedicated email address: sustainability@oic.it
